Highlands Riverbend is more than a campground to us — it’s a place where campers arrive as guests and leave as family.

Nestled along the banks of the Cullasaja River, our campground sits in a historically rich area once lived on and hunted by the Cherokee people. Arrowheads are still often found throughout the land, a quiet reminder of those who first knew and honored this river. The name Cullasaja, given by the Cherokee, is believed to mean “Land of the Honey Locust,”reflecting the natural abundance and life that has long defined this river corridor.

After the Cherokee left the area, this property became part of the Bryson family legacy, remaining in their family for generations. In 1997, the land was sold and thoughtfully transformed into what became known as Riverbend Campground — a name inspired by its perfect positioning along the river’s natural bend.

Since 2024, Highlands Riverbend has been proudly owned and lovingly stewarded by Tim and Jodi, who are committed to honoring the land’s history while building a welcoming, family-oriented campground rooted in community and care. Proud members of the Franklin Chamber of Commerce and Visit Smokies, Tim and Jodi live just a couple of miles up Ellijay Road, where they also enjoy life on their family farm, Hickory Knob Farm.

For the comfort and peace of mind of our guests, a full-time camp host is on property at all times, ensuring a friendly presence and attentive care throughout your stay.

Today, Highlands Riverbend continues to be a place where nature, history, and hospitality come together — all along the timeless flow of the Cullasaja River.
